Matthew Aslett has been supporting humanitarian missions for over twenty years, and since picking up a camera in the late 2000s has documented the effects of major global crises. He is extensively involved in researching and developing strategies for the visualisation and documentation of human conflict, environmental issues and indigenous communities impacted by international development.

A graduate of the Newport school of Documentary Photography and the University of the Arts London, he holds a Masters degree in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism. A consultant to international safety advisories, having literally written the book on hostile environment training and preparation, Matthew is committed to supporting colleagues working in hostile environments and has been involved in developing training and mentoring to photographers throughout his career.

Matt’s current projects are fueled by an interest in the geopolitical connections of Southeast Asia — in particular the transnational Zomia region — and the complex legacy of western colonial power’s direct intervention with eastern states and cultures. Matt is interested in the future of the region, and how its economies are currently cultivated through development projects and capital facilitated by multinational corporations, and the Chinese state.

With extensive experience, deep knowledge of documentary practice, and broad links to industry professionals and communities globally, Matt brings a wealth of expertise, resources, and an exacting eye for brilliance to the team. He also makes a legendary skipped curry and chai.
